About Kelly

Owner of Etiquette for Everyday and Certified Etiquette Instructor through the International School of Protocol, Kelly Frager truly enjoys raising awareness about how we can treat each other with kindness, courtesy and respect. She loves building individual confidence by discussing courteous and civil ways to handle situations that range from the playground to the dinner table to the board room.

As a former human resources professional and corporate trainer, she observed first- hand the importance good manners and solid communication skills play in workplace success. Through raising her three children with her husband Todd, she recognized that these life skills should be taught early and reinforced throughout our lives. Good manners never go out of style.

Kelly received a Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State University and earned a Master of Science degree in Human Resources Development from Johns Hopkins University. Her education, coupled with etiquette certification, work experience and extensive volunteer activities has allowed Kelly to create a business that adds value to our society. When we choose to act with kindness, courtesy and respect everyone benefits!

Kelly and Etiquette For Everyday: The REAL (and really long) Scoop

In 2007, Kelly was having lunch with a close college friend, whose sons were the same age as her daughters. Kelly’s friend shared that her oldest son was taking a cotillion class in Northern Virginia. The discussion turned to children and the importance of them possessing good manners as they progress through life. It was during this conversation that the light bulb went off for Kelly. She reflected on her professional experience in corporate human resources & training and the ‘competencies’ and characteristics that made a person successful in the workplace. It boiled down to the ability to communicate effectively, make others feel comfortable, and handle various situations with grace and civility. While etiquette wasn’t the first word to come to mind, the concept from which her business started did.

Kelly became a Certified Etiquette Instructor through The International School of Protocol in 2008.

Much thought went into naming the business. She didn’t want people to suddenly stiffen up when they discovered she was an etiquette instructor. Humorously, that still does happen. Etiquette For Everyday was chosen to reflect her belief that it is the common courtesies that we should demonstrate every day, and not just on fancy or special occasions, that will distinguish one person from the rest.

As a mom to three kids, Kelly and her husband Todd knew how much persistence (some kids might call it nagging!) it takes for parents to teach good manners to their kids. She decided to begin this journey into entrepreneurship with a focus on youth, offering etiquette classes through recreation councils, churches and schools. She recognized that these life skills should be taught early and reinforced throughout our children’s lives.

Over the past several years, after redirecting many phone calls for “husband training” (sorry guys!), Kelly decided to venture back into the adult world and work with business clients in addition to working with youth. She teaches classes and speaks to organizations and businesses about what etiquette really is: kindness, courtesy and respect. Relationships NOT rules.

“It is exciting to be able to work with our young people, helping parents lay the foundation for these important life skills. As the kids move towards adulthood, they need to know how to handle themselves in various social situations such as college and job interviews – including the interview conducting in a dining situation. Once in the workplace, how a person handles him/herself is often a HUGE factor in determining success. Those who are confident, courteous and able to make connections will be successful.”

“I feel grateful to work with people of all ages to help give them confidence so they can be a success, regardless of their age or current role in life. I believe we all WANT to feel comfortable and feel like we have handled social situations with grace. It makes us feel better inside! Often, it is a simple matter of raising awareness about etiquette, especially given today’s rapidly changing environment and additional technologies that allow us to connect on various levels with all different types of people.”
